Agriboards & Biobased Boards
Agriboards and biobased boards are becoming prevalent as interest in sustainable building products and the number of LEED™ certification projects grows worldwide. These boards are primarily made from plant waste and/or rapidly renewable plant materials.
Agriboards are generally lighter than traditional wood particle boards, so product weight is reduced and less energy is expended in shipping. We look for boards that have formaldehyde-free, non-toxic resins and are manufactured in plants that make every effort to curb energy and water use.
Many of these boards offer stunning color, texture, and lines. Stay tuned as we introduce new products!
Bamboo
One of the most exciting new materials we're using to create bamboo plaques is a laminated bamboo product called plyboo™. Bamboo is a rapidly renewable resource. The bamboo used in plyboo™ is grown in managed forests in China. It reaches a mature height of 40 feet in 4 years and does not require replanting after harvesting.
PaperStone®
Our newest creations to incorporate renewable resources are crafted using PaperStone®. FSC-certified PaperStone® is made from 100% post-consumer standard office paper and certified by the Smartwood program of the Rainforest Alliance to meet FSC standards. PaperStone® is commonly used in LEED building projects - as countertops in a kitchen or bath, for example - and we are enjoying designing new and interesting applications for this versatile material.
Richlite® Black Diamond
An innovative green building material we have started using for our Renewal and Purpose Plaques is FSC-certified Richlite. Richlite is 30% rapidly renewable eucalyptus and 70% pine. All Richlite materials are made either with FSC-certified or post-consumer recycled paper. In addition, Richlite products are GREENGUARD® certified for indoor use in residential, school, and institutional environments and contribute to LEED points. The surfaces are produced using an innovative and efficient WE™ (Waste-to-Energy) manufacturing system that captures toxins and re-circulates heat to greatly minimize fuel consumption, pollution, and carbon emissions.
Richlite has contemporary appeal, with an elegant matte finish, that lends itself well for plaque construction and design. We are excited to explore all the possibilities for awards and plaques crafted from this eco-friendly material. To learn more about Richlite, visit www.richlite.com.
